What is Save Our Children's Rights

Save Our Children's Rights (SOCR) is a UK-based campaign coalition launched in 2025 that defends the legal rights of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). It aims to stop government plans to restrict or remove Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans and other statutory support. The campaign is supported by IPSEA, Special Needs Jungle, and other disability organisations.

Key Aspects of the Campaign

  • Purpose: To prevent the dilution of legal rights for children with SEND, which the coalition warns could occur under proposed government reforms, such as restricting EHC plans to only the most severe cases.

  • Key Partners: Led by Special Needs Jungle, IPSEA, SOS!SEN, SEND National Crisis, SEND Rights Alliance, and Learning Disability Today.

  • Support: The National Education Union (NEU) is backing the campaign, bringing educators and families together.

  • Key Demands:

    • No reduction of existing legal rights for SEND children.

    • Protect and properly fund the current EHC plan framework.

    • Ensure any SEND reforms do not sacrifice legal protections for cost-saving.

  • Action Taken: Over 130,000 people signed a petition that led to a Parliamentary debate. The campaign also uses a photo campaign and template letters to MPs to raise awareness.

The campaign argues that the current SEND system is in crisis due to underfunding, not because of the legal framework, which provides essential protection for children's education.
