Finding Local Support for carers with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. The powerful impact of talking to others who understand, sharing stories and advice.
I am so happy; I have made it to a coffee morning. This group was an Autism support group for parents and carers. I tried so many times to get there. When you are told time and time again that you are wrong or not taken seriously, you don't feel you have anything to say.
Finding My Local Support
I continuously apologised as I told them my story and listened to theirs. We laughed at the situations we got ourselves into and sympathised with the challenges each of us was facing. I had found some new people, and I had something in common with them.
There is no comfort in believing I was right when everything went so badly wrong.
We need support groups to allow us to talk.
